Reading Response 4 - Katie Zolman

I agree with some of my classmates about this reading, particularly with the introduction. There were dozens of terms and ideas tossed around and elaborated on and I found myself asking many times why it mattered and how it was relevant, and when I finally understood why something was included, key terms that I needed to know where the only ones not defined. It was a little sprawling and difficult to follow, and left me wondering what was happening. The language also seems to be a strange combination of easily accessible (explaining things very simply for those with zero background knowledge on the topics) and overly complicated.

That being said, there were some analogies, particularly in the functions section, that made visualization of whatever the article was discussing much easier. Using plates to describe stacks, and using the term bootstrap to describe functions were both helpful in grasping the concepts discussed. Unfortunately these helpful analogies always seem to be included for the very simplest of concepts -- not the more complex ones, where they would be most useful in keeping up with the article.
